Events/Activities and Lighting Info so far...
My first post! How exciting. I just thought I'd update you on what I have so far today. I've been writing down ideas for activities that we may want to incorporate into the design.
Activities:
-theatre/ dance performances
-music concerts
-food festival/dining area/food court
-air show
-water sports show
-outdoor picnic area
-rides? (Luna park could be free admission)
-arts and craft markets
-movie/cinema room
-museums dedicated to aboriginal heritage/ history of sydney/ circular quay
-the grass area on the top could host football/rugby games?
It could be a month long structure that might accommodate some of these things?

Peter Milne and his large scale projection company Electric Canvas have handled projection for Luminous and Vivid Sydney- they use the PIGI and Large format scrolling projection. I think we should use this system, because I'm not sure how else to project light on the scale that we're planning! (and they've done it before)
Factors to consider with lighting:
-Size of structure to cover
-Distance to project over (and water to project through!) I think Peter Milne has projected distances of up to and around 650 metres...
-Energy efficiency
-The light reflecting off certain surfaces and blinding people! (I had to put a dramatic one in)
-Will our lights change colour, how often, be still images, be an animation (?)
I'm in the process of researching materials which I will hopefully have up before our deadline!

ideas
circular quay 2030

rough impression of what circular quay looks like in 2030.
i went to the sit last week, these are the key points:
1.opera house was built high enough to survive the 5m water level rise.
only the lower level (opera bar and underground parking) will be affected
macquarie st (street level of opera house), is also situated high enough above new water level
2. 5 meters are below the platform ground at CQ platform station
3. only the walkways around CQ are affected. MCA museum and quay grand suites (the buildings on the left and right side of cq respectively) has other access on the other site of the street. (george st, the rocks and macquarie st) so most likely the activities in these buildings won't be disrupted
